Santa in the Highlands Parade
If I were asked to name my favorite annual community event, I think the Christmas parade would win (though Fourth of July would be very close). It’s really like no other and if you have never experienced it, I encourage you to try and fit it into your busy December schedule. This hour long event confirms my belief that I live in a very special town. Young and old come out to watch a community display all its goodness. From the Scouts to the Humane Society with dogs in need of homes, everyone is included. We have our own Rockettes, well its the Garden Club, and hands down, the very best Santa. If your child has never sat on our Santa’s lap, they are missing a blessing. And who knows, perhaps we will have a live nativity scene again this year. However, this year I elect to watch from the curb instead of being Mary and riding through town on the back of a very cute donkey.
I could describe last year’s event but Ginger of A Moment in Time Photography captures the day better than any words with her beautiful photographs. See you on December 5th at 11 am.
Can you please let me know where the parade takes place and at what time and date. We are new in town and will love to go to this event.
Can I get directions to the place
Ana,
The floats line up on Smallwood near Harris Lake, but the parade route actually starts on Main Street near the Hudson Library and ends on Main Street near the Methodist Church (the white church on Main Street). Our favorite vantage point is in front of Market Fresh Grocery, but anywhere on Main is great. Highlands Wine and Cheese serves a breakfast so we always spend time there before the parade. Check out The Chamber for other activities Saturday. http://www.highlandschamber.org/calendar/?m=12&d=5&y=2009 I hope to see you there.
If you plan to attend the parade on Saturday bring a coat. The forecast is for a high of 34 with snow.
