I’m a Builder not a Writer

When I graduated from Georgia Southern with a BS in Building Technology I immediately moved to Atlanta to start my career in the construction industry. I worked as a Superintendent, Estimator and Project Manager on commercial projects ranging from hair salons to shopping centers. Eventually, I started my own company and built speculative homes in downtown Atlanta. When my wife and I decided to move to the mountains of North Carolina, naturally I moved the business to Highlands and started building custom homes.

While living in Atlanta, I also attended Georgia State’s Business School, Gwinnett Tech and Georgia Tech learning more about real estate, horticulture and civil engineering. I never actually received degrees from any of these institutions, but I gained a great deal of knowledge.
This quick history is a good introduction for my first post on my first blog, but is meant to demonstrate something more relevant. I have a degree and over twenty years of experience in the construction industry. I have spent many hours in the field and in the class room to learn more about building and other relevant professions. I, however, have no experience or education that would qualify me as a writer.
I’ll try to impart some of what I have learned about building, particularly in the mountains, but I can make no promises as to the quality of the writing technique.
