The new 6-acre campus for The Bascom art center is an exciting addition to Highlands. Last night was the “grand” opening and we were not disappointed in the facility nor the cultural opportunities now available locally. We were excited to finally drive over the historic covered bridge brought in all the way from New Hampshire. In addition, there is a large 1838 hand-hewn, post-and-beam barn that was donated to form the core of the main art center building. The overall facility is a beautiful balance of historical and modern architecture. At one point while walking through the atrium, I had to remind myself that I was not in the “city” but a small mountain community located in western North Carolina. No detail was left to chance and no penny appeared to have been pinched.
Check out the upcoming exhibits, workshops and presentations. There is something for all ages including our kids who have their own art room.
