Scaly Mountain is a unique mountain community that only a few have discovered but in time, many will. Its simplicity and sophistication add to its charm while its natural beauty equals the best in western NC. It is an easy two hour drive from Atlanta and located on NC 106 about 6 miles from Highlands, NC. The elevation of Scaly Mountain is 4,800 feet (it is an actual mountain) and the community is surrounded by forest service. For those who leave the cities seeking a peaceful and private retreat for family and friends but still want the option of fine dining, it is definitely worth a look.
We have called it home since 2003 and have no regrets raising our 5 year-old surrounded by such simplicity and beauty. In todays world, few children grow up appreciating a sunset or long hikes. Like many, we started looking for property in Highlands though soon realized leaving one city for another was not our goal. We wanted acreage, views, privacy and all that nature had to offer and just by chance, found the community of Scaly Mountain.
